There are strict laws against animal abuse in the UAE. In UAE, a person can’t get away with animal abuse; the law in UAE does not allow any kind of animal cruelty. Under Federal Law 18, if a person is found guilty of abusing or illegally hunting, buying, or selling animals, they shall be punished. Federal law 16 of 2007 was introduced to protect animals from abuse and neglect. A person can be punished if he treats animals with cruelty, provides an inadequate diet, or if the animal is undernourished, or transported through unsafe transportation, as well as other forms of mistreatment, including scientific experiments, cruelty, and sexual abuse, are punishable by law. Animals must be treated well and should be provided with proper medical facilities whenever needed. Abandoning an animal is against the law. Anyone found guilty of animal neglect will receive written animal protection and welfare guidelines, and thereon the person should pledge not to repeat the negligence.
If any negligent behavior or abuse continues after receiving the written guidelines, the pet owner can face punishment plus he will also be liable to pay all expenses, like veterinary bills, etc.
Violation of animal rights can attract punishment such as imprisonment for a year and a fine of up to Dh 20,000.
According to the Federal Law, No 18 of 2016, the cases of animal cruelty shall be punished accordingly, if a person is involved in abusing or illegal hunting, buying, or selling animals face will be punished with a one-year prison term and a fine of Dh200,000.
Article 432 of the federal punishment law states that anyone found guilty of torturing or abusing an animal will be liable to pay a fine of DH 10000.
